What happened 8 years ago? Let’s see…I was entering the summer of my first year of middle school; where girls had yet to rid themselves of koodies no matter how hard we tried to beat it out of them, Runescape was the Swagga-jackin’ way to rule the popularity circles, and the unknown Florida native Diplo was releasing a solo album. And now, 8 years later, the master of genre-mixing has finally released the date for Express Yourself. June 12th, mark the calendar, as that day will be one mighty crunk one. To celebrate the announcement Mr. Diplo has released his collaboration with the Storm Trooper helmetted Vermont natives, Lazerdisc Party Sex. This track will surely make you wanna pop that ass like it’s somethin’ on fire! HEYO…been a second since I posted anything, all the new writers have been KILLING IT in the writing game, cranking out posts left and right about some really diverse and cool new music.

Dynohunter is another Boulder based group who we have posted about a few times now.  Their new album, ‘Techtonic Drift’ is an awesome showcase of their now very established sound.

Over the pas few days the Center Stage Classic artists Rodway and TYR have been slaving away up in Mandu studios working on a remix for the Kimbra competition with Warner Bros Records. After disappearing for what seemed like ages, the two have emerged with a track for the books. The hard gritty bass is driven perfectly by the swingy drums and classy Kimbra vocals. This track is ready to get any dancefloor going. Sadly it’s not up for download yet, but you can rape the play button all you want on both Rodway and TYR’s soundcloud.

These days it’s hard to find a decent hop-hop track that has a deeper message than how many blunts the rapper can smoke. Chicago-based Creative Thought$ Music Group is an alternative hip-hop label reacting to the absence of depth in the more mainstream music by releasing tracks that go just as hard but include lyrical poetry and deep meaning that would fit right in on a Tupac record. The group is currently featuring rappers D.R. and Shaffer who also happen to be CTMG’s founders.  Recent singles have gained them a lot of attention as someone to watch closely in the alternative scene. Their latest release “It’s All Good” is an airy anthem with a bittersweet hook and intricate verses.

     After my remix DRVGS was posted on Mad Decent’s 67th soundcloud roundup (found here), I decided to check out all the other tunes that were sitting in between the crazy abstract art (you’ll understand if you look at the post). I listened to all of them, but the one  that really jumped out was a track by the very unknown group M|O|D,  LiL TExAS  - I Need U. I don’t know what genre to put this one under other than BASS music. It drops quick and stays heavy with sick catchy baseline. The rhythm and groove are indescribable, so just give it a listen. Go grab this one and enjoy showing you’re friends some dope ass underground tune-age.

It’s festival season once again, and as expected, the Sonic Bloom festival has delivered yet another stellar line up that stacks up against even the largest festivals in the country. Although I haven’t had the privilege of attending S.B. yet, this year will be my first time and I couldn’t be more excited.

Along with live art and a boatload of other activities there will be OVER 70 musical performers gracing the stage(s) throughout the 3-day festival, many of whom haven’t performed in Colorado within the last year. This is an event you don’t want to miss.

Some artists I’m most excited about seeing: Robotic Pirate Monkey, SunSquabi,
Jantsen, Tipper, PANTyRAiD, VibeSquad, Minnesota, GRiZ, Thriftworks, and Dirt Monkey

The first and second “tier” of 3-day passes have already sold out which means they are going fast, be sure to grab yours right now before the price increases. The festival is taking place from June 21-24 at Shadows Ranch in Geargetown, CO.
