Sonic Bloom Music and Arts festival is something special. Sonic Bloom has managed to create it’s own niche in the music festival industry by creating a completely unique and rare atmosphere that can excite nearly any music and art lover. Sonic Bloom boasts an exceptional line-up of every type of music one could imagine, ranging from underground artists of the Midwest such as Lost Optical, Zilla, and Papa Skunk, all the way to international acts such as Opiuo and Ill Gates. Sonic Bloom also incorporates one-of-a-kind workshops over the weekend all within the festival grounds including yoga classes, tribal fusion belly dance classes, partner stretching classes and moon tracking classes plus many more inimitable classes that are hard to find anywhere else! There are also film screenings during the festival including a documentary called “The Bloom” highlighting the phenomenon of socially transformational festivals.
Sonic Bloom is held in Georgetown, Colorado on Shadows Ranch. Shadows Ranch offers a large creek running through the grounds, providing a perfect lounging spot during the hot summer days of the festival to swim, chill and meet new people. One of the most notable parts of sonic bloom is its true late-night performances. Music doesn’t end until 6am or later during the days of the festival, so be sure not miss the infamous Random Rab sunrise set!
Some of the notable, better known musical acts on the line-up include Opiuo (first timer at sonic bloom), Vibesquad (a Sonic Bloom regular), The Grouch and Eligh, Minnesota, Ill Gates and the Polish Ambassador. But, the real reason why I love Sonic Bloom so much, and why I always recommend sonic bloom to any type of music listener is because of the array of smaller, lesser known local and not-so-local acts that end up on the bill. Sonic Bloom has stayed true to its roots again this year, so be sure not to miss sets from Andreilien (formerly Heyoka), Love & Light, Robotic Pirate Monkey, Unlimited Aspect and Yu Yu. Also, if you are looking for a hands down good time, be sure not to miss The Fungineers. The Fungineers features a live DJ set from a life size puppet, and offers music from all corners of every genre, its impossible not to dance during his fun-loving, upbeat dance music set. Lastly, if you are into hard, heavy bass lines with a bit of grime on the side then be sure not miss Eoto’s own Prophet Massive. Jason Hann, the drummer for widely acclaimed Eoto, has a dark side that he calls Prophet Massive- known for throwing down the hardest bass and grimiest filth that you’ve ever heard packed into a one hour set.
Sonic Bloom offers camping, lounging in the sun near the water, unique classes and workshops, meeting new people, learning about new music, and hanging out with your friends in a pleasant and welcoming community of fellow music and art lovers. It’s intimate setting and small festival feel are what sets this festival apart from the massive array of other festivals popping up around the globe. What more could you ask for? Well, there is one more thing worth mentioning- the price of the three-day ticket that includes camping and parking is only $125 pre-sale! At most, they cost only $195 if you are the type to wait until the last minute to buy your ticket. Be sure to check out their website at www.sonicbloomfestival.com for more information regarding ticketing, the musical line-up, offered workshops and classes, a list of what to bring to the festival, and a map of the venue.
